Athens, Day 1

11/7 -Yesterday was our first day exploring a bit of Athens and visiting the famous Acropolis, where the Parthenon, Erechtheon, Herodion Theatre, Theatre of Dionysos and temple of Athena Nike are located. We lucked out, it was a beautiful, sunny day and these ancient structures looked simply amazing in the sunlight! Hadrian’s library and the Roman and Ancient Agoras were other sites we visited but none of these could compare to the Acropolis. For dinner, Ritasha had a delicious Greek salad and I opted for a pork Gyros plate! We then decided to head back to our hotel after a long day of walking. Cheers until our next update!

On Wednesday we took a train from Venice to Ancona (Italy) (about 4 and ½ hours) and hopped onto a Ferry (for 21 hours) to Patras (Greece). Upon our arrival in Greece on Thursday we took a bus from Patras to Athens. And after some 28 hours later we arrived in the legendary city of Athens.

Being on the Acropolis reminded me of why I became a history major in the first place. As Joe and I wandered amongst the ancient marble and stone ruins, I could hear my Greek Professor lecturing about the Parthenon. I had to simply pinch myself when I saw the slideshows of my college days come to life before my eyes. Other than the ancient ruins, Athens is simply a big crowded city. We are hoping to go to some of the closer Greek Islands in the next couple days.
