10/29 - 10/31
Ah Firenze.... On our first day, we spent the afternoon walking around and ended up finding the Duomo accidently. It's the cathedral that houses Florence’s' biggest dome. While I thought it was beautiful, nothing impresses us as much after St. Peter's Basilica. On our next day, we went to the Accademia which has the world famous "David" by Michelangelo. And wow it was impressive. We were not allowed to take pictures with the real thing, but thankfully the day before while at Piazza Signoria we took plenty pictures with the fake statue. We also went to the Uffizi museum which houses the Florentine renaissance paintings and saw the "Birth of Venus" by Botticelli including many other famous works by Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael and Caravaggio. Unfortunately, neither the Accademia nor the Uffizi allowed photography so you will have to come see the real works yourself!
Today was a thankfully lazy day for us. We slept in and had brunch at our favorite Cafe around the corner. We spent the day wandering around and found a beautiful Russian church built in 1899, an old fortress and a couple parks. We saw a bunch of kids wearing their Halloween outfits and felt a little homesick. We hope everyone has a happy Halloween!
